In recent years, the use of hydrogel materials in medicine, pharmacy and tissue engineering has become increasingly popular. This is due to the unique properties of these materials. In addition to sorption capacity, hydrogel materials are characterized by such features as biocompatibility, biodegradability, thermal and chemical resistance, flexibility and non-toxicity. Scientists are still conducting research to increase the application potential of hydrogel materials. Not only their pure form, but also various additives are taken into account, which are intended to give these polymers additional properties, as well as to increase the applicability of hydrogels. One such additive is bee honey, which due to its antibacterial and antioxidant properties is often used in medicine and pharmacy. In this work, the physicochemical properties of bee honeys from various parts of Poland were determined. Then, hydrogel materials based on chitosan were obtained with the addition of selected bee honeys. The obtained hydrogel materials can be used as third generation dressings and can be used in the treatment of difficult to heal wounds such as burn wounds. Such dressings maintain an adequate wound healing environment, prevent its contamination, while the addition of honey is responsible for antibacterial and antioxidant properties.
