The latest research results suggests that 25-OH cholesterol is an important hormone regulating a level of cholesterol production and lymphocyte activity . It can also be applied in antiviral and antitumor therapy. Moreover, its various derivatives, modified in steroid ring system have an important biological activity and can be applied in basic research and drug synthesis.
A novel enzymatic method of regioselective hydroxylation of cholesterol and its derivatives at C25 carbon atom is an alternative to the multistep chemical synthesis. As the reaction is carried out in water the recovery of hydrophobic reagents is greatly facilitated. Moreover, the hydroxylation process proceeds in just one step.
The technology is still on the development stage (the planned readiness to implementation – beginning of 2016). We are also planning patent application of the developed technology.
The main objectives of the offer is to find a partner interested in regioselective hydroxylation of cholesterol derivatives that will be interested in cooperation at research on scale-up of the process and tailoring-out the reaction system to theirs requirements. The technology is still in the R&D phase. However, from 01.2016 the implementation phase and industrial research can be initiated. There is also a possibility of the international joint patent for technology protection outside Polish territory.
